Diabetic Association Dinajpur starts its activities in the year 1979 in small room at Paharpur Red-Crescent hospital. Than it shifted to the BNSB eye hospital Newtown. In that time only the Urine sugar examine by benedict solution heating by sprit lamp was performed. After that in the year 1981 Diabetic Association Dinajpur shifted to his own place, now where we are standing.
A Colorimeter and a microscope was the only instrument for testing the blood sugar, other biochemical test and the Pathological test for the Diabetic patient. Only 1 Doctor, 1 Social welfare Officer, 1 trained science graduate for laboratory were entertaining the diabetic patient. Only one room was available for this purpose where all activities of the diabetic Association were performing.
Diabetic Association Dinajpur now has two wings of three-stored building the total floor space of each floor is 14000 square fit of each wings. It has an almost decorated laboratory beside the colorimeter we have one semi-auto Analyzer, two fully auto-Analyzer, one Dry chemistry Analyzer, one hormone Analyzer, one histopathology unit, one microbiology unit. Radiology & Imaging consists of two number x-ray machine among which one is digital x-ray machine, one is CT scan, 4D Ultrasound machine is servicing here properly. In cardiology unit we do here ECG and ETT color-Doppler ECO cardiogram in perform here. We have a Physiotherapy unit, a small library for our personal use; a social welfare department has four officers are working with the poor diabetic patient. We have two number nutrition officer/dietitian. We have 50-bed indoor hospital that is increased its capacity in 80-bed very soon. We have 15 numbers of doctors, one dental surgeon, one gynecologist, one eye consultant are servicing here for the diabetic and for the Non-Diabetic. All the 13 of number Doctors completed the CCD course successfully. We also have 138 numbers of total staff in different category, two ambulances and one staff micro-bus. We have a dental unit with facilities of dental x-ray. A maternity unit with facilities of infant incubator. Two numbers of well-furnished aseptic operation theater, one labour room, one septic operation theater and one-foot care unit. We are taking class for educating the diabetic patient every day.
We are already running a sub-center more then 30km from district headquarter a remote area of Bochagonj upozila and Birgonj upozila which is also about 30km from Dinajpur district. Dinajpur Diabetic hospital running a outdoor fullflegedly where at least 500 patient taking their treatment daily and we have above 65 thousand registered diabetic patient coming regularly and getting service from this hospital by giving only Tk 100 for their blood sugar, Urine sugar, Urine albumin and their doctors consultancy charge.
We have listed poor free patient the number that are 800. We are giving about 400 viols insulin in every month free of cost. The viols we are purchasing in a subsidize rate from Bangladesh Diabetic Association, Dhaka. We have 10 free beds for poor patient where they getting food, medicine and treatment free of cost.
